In the opening leg of their 2025 Asian friendly tour, Ghana’s Black Stars met a formidable Japan in a match that highlighted both promise and pitfalls ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The hosts, riding high after a recent 3-2 upset over Brazil, struck twice to secure a comfortable victory, but not without Ghana showing flashes of resilience. Coach Otto Addo viewed it as a tactical workshop, despite the shadow of a heartbreaking injury to midfielder Abu Francis overshadowing the pitch.   

Pre-Match Hype: Momentum Meets Caution

Fresh from sealing World Cup qualification with a gritty 1-0 win over Comoros, the Black Stars jetted into Japan with high spirits but a depleted squad. Injuries to Mohammed Salisu and Antoine Semenyo (initially) forced Addo to lean on emerging talents, including a debut start for Francis Abu.
